Lovis Prime & Walter Tovey: A Family Wedding, 1921

What the Community has told us

UPDATE MARCH 2026

Update: A strong family connection quickly emerged. The couple at the centre of the photograph have been identified with confidence as Lovis Prime (1898–1987) and Walter Francis Tovey (1901–1971), whose wedding is understood to have taken place in 1921. They went on to have three children: Celia, George and Violet.

Walter was later badly injured in a mining accident and lost a leg. The couple lived for many years in Hunts Lane, Newbold Verdon, before Lovis moved to Barlestone in the 1980s.

Lovis’s parents have also been identified as Arthur Prime and Sarah Jane Kind. Within the wider group, two more figures have been confirmed by family members: the woman front right holding the little girls hand is Hilda Kate Prime, and the elderley woman in white, sitting down is is Sarah, of the same Prime family line.

Several commenters recognised the photograph itself as a treasured family piece, having seen copies of it before in old family collections passed down through the generations — a lovely sign of just how many descendants this one photograph connects.

That still leaves a number of the wedding party unidentified. Can you name any of the remaining people?
